What have you been going through and experiencing?

I have been through grief over the past month. It was very deep as I lost three family members in 10 days and I have been busy being there for my family as well as receiving support.

Douglas, I will always talk about you. I am so grateful for having you. From our calls where we sing endlessly to being so understanding when I could not go to Bali with you, you have become such a gift to my journey.

Kashimani Simasiku

I felt very lonely in my early days here. Kashimani reached out and we spent some time together. We always check on each other, and have so much fun when together. We often talk and support each other in difficult moments.

I had a walk around the city. I loved how lively it was. The people, the animals, the nature. Everything seemed to live in harmony. I felt a deep sense of peace.

A mother

I was in the tram, heading to the city center when a kind woman asked me to sit next to her. Being in a country where people are quite shy, I was surprised to listen to her telling me about her life, her daughter, her family. She held my hand with so much kindness and softness. It almost felt like she was my Mom. It was truly magical, she made my day, and I am infinitely grateful for her.

Kindness as the strongest glue of relationships

When I was at the airport in Istanbul, I had a 20-hour layover. I stayed in the mosque, resting between flights. When I first arrived, I smiled at a lady, but I didn’t think much of it.

As time passed, though, she began taking such gentle care of me. She gave me something to cover myself with, smiled at me throughout her shift, sent me flying kisses, and even offered me a few oranges. Before she left, she came over, hugged me, and then walked away.

That moment meant so much to me. I didn’t know her, and she didn’t know me — but that simple act of smiling at her when I arrived somehow created this quiet bond between us. It reminded me how powerful small acts of kindness can be.
